Happy Fourth of July!!!
As we come together to celebrate the 250th anniversary of America's Independance, the City of Graettinger wants to remind everyone of our fireworks ordinance and encourage a safe, respectful, and fun holiday for all.
Fireworks are permitted within Graettinger city limits on July 3 and July 4. These two days give families, friends, and neighbors the chance to enjoy the tradition of fireworks while still keeping our community safe and comfortable.
We ask everyone to be courteous to your neighbors. Not all residents enjoy loud fireworks, and some pets, veterans, and young children can be especially sensitive to noise. Please be mindful of the time of night, the direction you are shooting fireworks, and the impact it may have on those around you.
Over the years, we've seen a few safety issues that we want to help prevent:
- Fireworks discharged too close to home, garages, or vehicles, creating fire hazards.
- Improper disposal of spent fireworks, leading to smoldering debris and small fires.
- Unsupervised minors handling fireworks resulting in avoidable injuries.
- Fireworks aimed into street, causing dangerous situations for drivers and pedestrians.
By staying aware and taking simple precautions we can avoid problems and keep everyone safe.
This years celebration is especially meaningful as we mark the 250th Fourth of July. It's a moment to reflect on our history, enjoy time with loved ones, and celebrate the spirit of community that makes Graettinger such a special place to call home.
